  • Question: Is 1403.2 exception 1 indicating that flashing per section 1405.4 is not required for cmu and concrete wall openings?

Answer on 04/08/2020 at 11:36 AM

Section 1403.2 is the general requirement for flashing. Exception 1 applies generally to the wall construction. In most cases, a CMU wall is protected with decorative cement finish or stucco with a finish coat of paint providing a weather resistant finish. Exception 1 is stating an additional covering is not required. 1405.4 is specific to flashing and clearly indicates when and where the flashing is required.
