  • Question: Is the intent of Florida Building Code - Building Section 508.3.1 to assign the occupant load factor of the primary occupancy to an accessory use area of a mixed occupancy? The accessory use area occupies less than 10% of the total floor area.

No, unless exempted by Section 508.3.1. Per Section
508.3.1.1 "Occupancy classification. Accessory
occupancies shall be individually classified in accordance
with Section 302.1. Code requirements shall apply to each
portion of the building based on the occupancy
classification of that accessory space."
