  • Chapter: 4
  • Section: 412.5, 412.5.4, 412.5.4
  • Topic: Allowing a PV conduit to enter a residential hanger and go through to a residence.

  • Question: Recently we did an inspection on a residential PV system. The residence is on a private air strip and each residence has their own hanger. The PV circuits come off the solar panel through micro inverters and continues down into the residence in schedule 40 PVC. The conduit then comes out of the dwelling and goes into the hanger exposed on the wall into a junction box at the ceiling height and exits the hanger on the exterior wall where is ends in the combiner enclosure.
My question is twofold. First is the conduit allowed to go through the hanger since section 412.5.4 requires electrical systems to be independent. Second The fire separation (412.5.1) states that the fire separation continues from the foundation to the underside of the roof and unpierced except for doors leading into the dwelling. Does this section prohibit this conduit from going through the hanger?
