Original Request

  • Requested By: Katie A Harrigan

  • Code Version: 2021
  • Code: BUILDING
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 705.8
  • Topic: 705.8 Fire Separation Distance and Definition of Openings

  • Question: 1. For the purposes of opening percentages defined in Table 705.8, is the opening defined as a window or door in an exterior wall? See ZTA_FSD_Exhibit 2.

    2. If there is a void created for an inset balcony in the wall closer to the property line, does the percentage of that void contribute to allowable openings, as defined by 705.8? See ZTA_FSD_Exhibit 1.

    3. If the building has offset exterior walls, but also has a continuous roof plan, would the Fire Separation be calculated to the exterior wall, as it varies in distance to the property line? Or would the fire separation be defined by the closest building face, or area defined by Fire area? See ZTA_FSD_Exhibit 1.
