  • Code: BUILDING
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 1017.2.2
  • Topic: Exit Access Travel Distance in an S-1 Occupancy in a Fully Sprinklered building

  • Question: Is it the intent for Sections 1017.2.2 of the Florida Building Code "Group F-1 and S-1 Increase" to reduce the exit access travel distance from the 400 feet shown in Table 1017.2 for an S-1 Occupancy with a compliant sprinkler system?

Answer on 04/03/2018 at 6:51 AM

The heading of table 1017.2 refers to footnote a. Footnote a clearly states: a. See the following sections for modifications to exit access travel distance requirements. These are not exceptions but modifications to the table that adds additional requirements/restrictions for the specific occupancies. The section referenced for Groups F1 & S1 is section 1017.2.2 which is copied Below. This section limits the maximum 400 foot exit access travel distance to a building that complies with ALL of the requirements listed in this section. This includes the building being one story and the requestor is constructing a 4 story building so they cannot use the 400 foot travel distance allowed by the table.

Commentary:
