Question
Is it the intent of the Florida Building Code to exempt renovations and repairs to mobile homes from the plans review, permitting and inspection procedures outlined in section 553.79, Florida Statutes.

No. Renovations and repairs to mobile homes are not exempt from local government permitting, plans review and inspections, however, the Florida Building Code may not be the document used for compliance of the work. A mobile home is built to HUD standards, and is under the jurisdiction of the Florida DOT for original installation. Any work to it that does not conform to the original design voids the warranty. All work or renovation, or repair after warranty expires must be done with a permit and inspections by the local AHJ. See F.S. 320.8285 and F.S.320.8232
