THE 5th Edition (2014) FCB-R105.2, HAS BEEN AMENDED FROM THE 2015 ICC-RESIDENTIAL CODE SECTION R105.2, AS IT IS "RESERVED" AND DOES NOT ADDRESS CONSTRUCTION ITEMS WHICH DO NOT NEED A PERMIT TO CONSTRUCT. HOW DOES THE 5th Edition (2014) FBC-RESIDENTIAL CODE ADDRESS SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING, BACKYARD PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT? SINCE THE RESIDENTIAL CODE DOES GOVERN STRUCTURES WHICH ARE NOT INCIDENTAL TO THE DWELLING (I.E., NON-ACCESSORY STRUCTURES) I MUST ASSUME I CAN CONSTRUCT WHAT I WANT, AS LONG AS THE "STRUCTURE" COMPLIES WITH THE APPLICABLE SECTIONS OF THE CODE GOVERNING STRUCTURES. MEANING, SINCE "MEANS OF EGRESS" CODES OF 5th Edition (2014) FBC-RESIDENTIAL, SECTION R311, ARE ONLY FOR "DWELLINGS" (ITALIC), I CAN CONSTRUCT STAIRS AND HANDRAILS TO BETTER MEET THE SIZE OF MY CHILDREN (AND GRANDSON), WHOM WILL "OCCUPY" THE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT; AS LONG AS THE STAIRS AND HANDRAILS MEET CODE PRESCRIBED LIVE LOAD REQUIREMENTS. FURTHERMORE, I ASSUME I CAN CONSTRUCT MY BACKYARD PLAYHOUSE AND ATTACHED FEATURES WITHOUT A PERMIT. FURTHERMORE, SINCE THE FBC-BUILDING CODES, SECTION 424 ONLY ADDRESS MATERIAL, FIRE PROTECTION, SEPARATION, AND AREA LIMITATIONS FOR PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT EXCEEDING 10 FEET IN HEIGHT AND 150 SQ. FT., I MUST ASSUME "MEANS OF EGRESS" FOR INDOOR MALL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT(SECT. 402.6.3) ARE ALSO EXEMPT FROM THE EGRESS CODES OF CHAPTER 10 I RESPECTFULLY HOPE TO GET A FAIR AND UNBIASED CODE OPINION VERY SOON, AS THE SUMMER MONTHS ARE NOW IN FULL "SWING"
