  • Chapter: 16
  • Section: 1609.3.1
  • Topic: ASCE wind pressure calculations

  • Question: FBC specifies to use ASCE for calculations for wind loads and wind pressure calculations, for category II we have to use fig 26.5-1.a, and to calculate the wind pressure on windows and doors, there is a table Fig 30.5-1 on page 346 yjat can be used based on the formulas plus the multipliers based on categories, high, etc. FBC uses the same tables on chapter 16, but there is section 1609.3.1 that allows a reduction to the wind presure multipliying the wind speed by the sqr of 0.6, reducing the wind speed from 170 to 132. also Chapter 26 ASCE allows to reduce the wind speed using the gust factor as 0.85. After reviewing closely ASCE, I have not found in the ASCE such reduction factor, neither the wind speed from 26.15-1.a called as ultimate speed
