  • Date: March 22, 2011
  • Requested By: Timothy Graboski
  • Requester E-Mail: tim@graboskiroofing.com
  • Code Version: 2007
  • Code: BUILDING
  • Code Description: Building
  • Chapter: 15
  • Section: 1507.2.10
  • Topic: Asphalt shingles in wind zones

  • Question: Is it the intent of Section 1507.2.10 specifically TABLE 1507.2.10 to allow the installation of asphalt shingles in all wind zones (100 up to 150 mph), although the asphalt shingle product approval is only valid up to 110 mph? (TAS 107 and ASTM 3161 Class F are tests rated to 110 mph)

Answer on 03/22/2011 at 8:38 AM

Yes, if the shingle is classified as ASTM D3161 Class F, TAS
107 or ASTM D 7158 Class H and so noted on the shingle
wrapper they may be installed in all wind zones.

Commentary:

Caution should be observed of shingles sold without wrappers. They do not comply with anything.
