  • Topic: Occupancy Classification

  • Question: Is it the intent of Florida Building Code - Building Section 304 to classify a yoga, dance and karate studio as a Business occupancy?

Answer on 06/14/2010 at 1:33 PM

No. As described, this is an A-3, Assembly occupancy.

Commentary:

Classrooms within Business occupancies with an occupant load greater than 50 are to be classified as Assembly. The "training and skill development" under Group "B" is for classroom settings such as trade schools with an occupant load less than 50. Further, it is not uncommon for activities such as those described to be open for observation by the general public or have competitions or events open to the general public.
