  • Date: April 07, 2009
  • Requested By: Jeanie Maselli
  • Requester E-Mail: smithjrjerome@yahoo.com
  • Code Version: 2004
  • Code: BUILDING
  • Code Description: Building
  • Chapter: 10
  • Section: 1004.1
  • Topic: Determining egress occupant load

  • Question: Is it the intent of §1004.1 Design Occupant Load to preclude the use of §1004.1.1 Actual Number to determine means of egress requirements?

Answer on 04/07/2009 at 6:13 PM

1004.1 requires the use of the larger of the occupant
loads generated by sections 1004.1.1 through 1004.1.3. If
the actual number of occupants the space is designed for
is greater than what is calculated by Table 1004.1.2, the
means of egress system must be designed for the actual
number of occupants.

Commentary:

The 2008 amendments to the 2007 FBC revised the excercise occupany portion of Table 1004.1.2 for consistency with the Florida Fire Prevention Code. The first row, (Excercise Rooms at 50 SF per person)has been deleted. Remaining are two rows for excercise rooms with equipment (50 SF gross) and without equipment (15 SF gross).
