  • Code: BUILDING

  • Topic: Deletion of "fully sprinklered"

  • Question: Was the exception for fully sprinklered buildings intentionally deleted from this paragraph?

Answer on 06/26/2008 at 8:50 AM

If you are asking if the Florida Building Commission chose
to omit an exception in the ICC base code from the Florida
Building Code, DCA staff ahould be able to provide the
research needed. This group can render an opinion on what
is written in the code, and as the Florida Building Code =
Building is published, there is no exception for fully
automatic sprinkler systems in section 716.5.4.

Commentary:

While the sprinkler exception under 716.5.4 seems to have been intentionally removed from the 2004 and 2007 FBCB, the language in FBCM 607.5.3 in 2004 and 2007 matches exactly with the language in the 2003 and 2006 IBC 716.5.4. These sections are identical in the IBC and the IMC. If we intentionally made changes in the FBCB it appears we may not have coordinated these changes with the FBCM for the last 2 code cycles. This may be an issue for someone to submit prior to July 15, 2008 for the current glitch cycle, if it is indeed an error.
