  • Question: Is it the intent of the change to R311.4.3 found in the 2005 Supplement to the Florida Building Code, Residential to allow required exit doors to swing out over one or two steps?

Commentary:

The Florida Building Commission issued a Declaratory (Dec) Statement clarifying the issue by stating " ... there is no requirement in the code that exterior or exit doors where there is a step down at the doorway be in-swing doors." The Dec Statement went on to state the Exception to Section R311.4.3 containing the prohibition of a door swinging over a landing is to a requirement which was deleted in the 2005 Supplement. Since the requiremnt was deleted, the terms of the exception are void. (See DCA06- DEC-068.)
