  • Question: I have a situation where a new building is being constructed 26 feet from the face of an existing building on the same site. The existing building is Type V Unprotected, and the new building will be Type I Construction. According to table 600, Exterior non-bearing walls in Type I construction must have a 2 hour fire resistance rating and is allowed 10% protected and unprotected wall openings. My question is: Do the windows in my new building which face the existing building need to be protected? If so, is a deluge curtain of sprinkler water acceptable as the required protection?
