  • Date Submitted: January 05, 2024
  • Requested By: Kent Kimes
  • Code: Building
  • Edition: 2023
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 454.2.6.1
  • Topic: ANSI/APSP/ICC 7 2020 SUCTION ENTRAPMENT PREVENTION
  • Question:
Is it the intend of Section 454.2.6.1 and Chapter 34, Adopted Reference Standards including ANSI/PHTA/ICC 7—2020, containing section 4.4.5.1, to require Building Departments to inspect or obtain information at final inspection of pools that verifies actual maximum possible system flow when a TDH calculation is used to demonstrate at plan review compliance with the safe flow of the Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly?
  • Comments:
The new ANSI 7 Suction Entrapment standard allows the compliance with the maximum safe flow of the Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly (SOFA) to be demonstrated at plan review by either showing the Maximum Flow at the end of the maximum speed pump curve or by TDH calculation. It goes on to say that if a TDH calculation is used for compliance, that maximum possible flow shall be verified, logically at or near the time of final inspection when the complete system is running.
