Question
Under the Florida Building Code, Building, Chapter 1, Section 105.1, does a master building permit issued exclusively for structural concrete restoration authorize the permanent removal and structural alteration of an engineered, structurally anchored High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) opening protection system without the review, approval, and issuance of a separate, address-specific structural trade sub-permit?
Answer Published 10/05/2026 at 11:25 AM
If the removal of the structural system is consequential to the master building permit issued for structural concrete restoration and required to complete the scope permitted under the master permit, then a separate permit may not be required. However, this could be more of an internal policy decision from the AHJ and as such the AHJ should be contacted for final guidance.
