Section 1013.1 of the Florida Building Code requires that exits and exit access doors be marked with approved exit signs. Exception 1 states:
"Exit signs are not required in rooms or areas that require only one exit or exit access."
I am seeking clarification regarding the intent of this exception:
In a room that has two or more doors, but the code requires only one exit, is an exit sign required over the door that serves as the required exit, or does Exception 1 allow for no exit signs at all in this scenario?

Exception 1 makes the assumption that the occupants are familiar enough with the space to know the way out and/or the exits are obvious. Also, in most cases, the way out is the same as the way in.
Commentary
The FBC section 1031.1 bases sign requirements on the number of required exits, not the number of existing doors.
