Question

Are the options "b&c" related to the fire rating of the projection (aluminum canopy carport) or only limited to "fire-retardant-treated wood"?

Footnotes b & c only apply to projections with a 1 hour fire-resistance rating on the underside of the projection, heavy timber or FRTW.

Commentary

Aluminum canopies are separate from the roof system and it would be impossible to put an aluminum roof over a patio area if you had to provide 3 feet separation from the building. There is no way to provide a fire-resistance rating on the underside of an aluminum canopy or patio roof.
