Question

Is it the intent of Section 915.1 Exemption 1 to require all existing nursing homes to install carbon monoxide detectors inside or directly outside of each room or area where a fossil fuel-burning heater, engine or appliance is currently installed?

The FBC-B is not a maintenance code. The FBC-Existing Buildings volume addresses CO alarms for additions. These occupancies would be classified as Residential Board and Care Occupancies by the FFPC, and it does not require CO alarms for existing facilities.

Section 915.1 does not apply to existing buildings.
