  • Question: Is fire blocking required in Type II construction at 10'-0" intervals per 718.2.2?? the first sentence in 718.2 states that fireblocking is required in combustible construction. Therefore, in our opinion, paragraph 718.2.2 is still referring to combustible construction. Are we correct??

In answer to the first part, No fire blocking is not required in type II construction provided exceptions in 602.2 are not applied to the structure. As for the second part of the question, yes section 718.2.2 is referring to combustible construction.

Commentary:

This is based on Construction Type. However, installation of metal framework is per the manufacturer's design. Stiffeners may be required and of course, any penetration of rated systems shall be protected.
