Question

Is it the intent of the 6th Edition of the Florida Plumbing Code 1202.1 that any medical gas system and medical vacuum system be installed in accordance with NFPA 99, even if NFPA 99 exempts certain facilities?

No, 1202.1 does require that any medical gas or medical vacuum system be installed in accordance with NFPA 99. When you refer to NFPA 99, Section 1.3.1 it is clear the standard does not apply to veterinary facilities

Commentary

While protection is important and all piping should be properly installed based on the environment and what is contained within it, NFPA has specifically excluded both home health care and veterinary facilities from the standard. This does not exempt Florida Statute 489.1136 requiring the certification for medical gas systems.
