Question

Is it the intent of Section 303.4 Assembly Group A - 3 to include a Pool Hall that has a commercial kitchen and serves alcohol? Or would this classify as non-separated mixed use with an A-2 Restaurant and an A-3 Pool and Billiard Parlor?

Based on the information provided and without seeing any plans, the major or dominant use is the food and/or drink consumption, based on the tables and chairs. The pools tables, if all fully occupied simultaneously, would serve 48 persons. The Requester states there are table and chairs for 109 people which presumably are for eating and consuming alcohol. With the information provided, classification is a non-separated A2

Commentary

This appears to be a mixed occupancy with the primary use assigned based upon the square foot area of each use. The designer can note that this is a mixed use - using both the A2 and A3 groups. Designing the building for the more restrictive of the code requirements. This is generally done by the designer.
