Question

TABLE 1106.7 SIZING SCUPPERS FOR A 5 INCH PER HOUR RATE OF RAINFALL has been eliminated from the 2017 FPC Sixth Edition. Will the old table be applicable moving forward or will a new sizing chart based on GPM be made available?

Table 1106.7 had appeared in previous FBC editions as a Florida-specific change. It was not renewed for the 6th Edition, so it sunsetted. Section 1108.3 addresses the sizing of secondary roof drains and scuppers. The 2015 IPC Commentary includes a useful table and equation (Figure 1108.3) that can be useful in designing properly-sized scuppers.

Commentary

Table 1106.7 is a Florida specific requirement which was overlooked for reinclusion into the FBC 6th Edition (2017) Plumbing volume. This Table was adjustable for any rainfall rate in Florida. The data contained in this table was based upon ASCE 7. Further, the table provided a simplified means for complying with the sizing and structural requirements of Sections 1503.4, Section 1514.4 and Section 1611 of the FBC, Building, and Sections 1101.7 and 1108.3 of the FBC, Plumbing. Until Table 1106.7 can be restored into the FBC, a building official may choose to accept the scupper sizing, roof area served and hydraulic head values contained in the table as an alternative to calculations by a Registered Design Professional
