Is it the intent of this section to require exhaust thru the roof
for a gas fired range? What if the range installed is electric
powered, does it still require exterior termination?

No. The requirement is for the duct to terminate to the
exterior, however, it is not required to penetrate the roof,
it could be a sidewall.

Commentary
An exhaust hood ducted to the outdoors is not required as
long as:
Where installed in accordance with the manufacturer�s
installation instructions, and where mechanical or natural
ventilation is otherwise provided, listed and labeled
ductless range hoods shall not be required to discharge to
the outdoors.
