Question

Is it the intent of 707.5.1 to require a roof assembly of a type 3B building to be 2 hour rated where such an assembly provides lateral support (top of wall to roof deck connection) to a 2 hour rated fire barrier wall used to separate fire areas?

Commentary

It would be up to the AHJ to determine the definition of Supporting Construction, 707.5 requires secure attachment to the roof for fire barriers. Does this attachment become a support? It would depend on many factors and probably no two would be the same.
