Question
Is it the intent of Equation 18-1 to determine a final 'd' and not be used in conjunction with other foundation formulas? Specifically, you cannot have PART of the overturning moment be resisted by LATERAL soil pressure via this embedded post formula and then the remaining amount of overturning moment be resisted by VERTICAL soil pressure at the bottom of the footing using a typical shallow footing calculation (resultant within middle third etc.), correct?
