Question
Is it the intent of 1008.1 that egress doors and frames shall not be painted flat black to match adjacent walls? This has an impact affecting easy recognition.

Means of egress doors shall be readily distinguishable
from the adjacent construction and finishes such that the
doors are easily recognizable as doors.

Commentary
The issue is the door, not the frame. The following is
only for the means of egress door as stated in section
1008.1- Means of egress doors shall be readily
distinguishable from the adjacent construction and finishes
such that the doors are easily recognizable as doors.
Mirrors or similar reflecting materials shall not be used
on means of egress doors. Means of egress doors shall not
be concealed by curtains, drapes, decorations or similar
materials.
