Question
Is it the intent of section 710.4 in a Type IIB building constructed of FRTW roof trusses to permit a one hour fire rated smoke barrier to intersect a FRTW roof truss at a right angle so that the FRTW roof truss penetrates the smoke barrier as the smoke barrier tracks to the roof deck above?

No, unless the assembly has been tested in the end use

Commentary
710.4 allows for non-rated support of the wall. But, the
penetration must comply with 713.3.1.1 OR 713.3.1.2. If the
fire caulk manufacturer has tested this assembly exactly
as installed, then it could be permitted. If not, an
opinion letter with supporting test data from the
manufacturer's engineers might be used to justify an
application for an alternate method and material.
Note: Vertical restraint of trusses should not take place
without approval of the truss design engineer.
