Question

Is it the intent of the Florida Building Code Residential to require that grout placed in lifts exceeding 12'' be consolidated by mechanical means?

No. Based on Section R609.1.4 Grout placement, five foot

(5') lifts are acceptable, not limited to twelve inches

(12").

Commentary

In addition to lift, grout is also subject to the pour height limitations of Table R609.1.2. There are self- consolidating grouts available that do not require consolidation or re-consolidation. Remember - When referenced standards and the code address a subject and they differ, the code prevails.
