Question
Is it the intent of this section of the code to maintain the fire-resistance rating separations between units by rated wall and floor assemblies only? Would a fire rated door be permitted in the rated wall assembly to interconnect the living spaces of separated dwelling units? There is not a noted code section that would permit or addresses an interconnection of a two family dwelling unit by the installation of a fire rated door.

Commentary
A door would be permitted. The penetration
would have to comply with R302.4.1.1. Seems like an
unlikely situation for a two-family dwelling though.
