Question
Is it the intent of code to allow a pool alarm that although it states compliance with UL2017 to have a method on the alarm to permanently disable the alarm by a switch or input of a code? The alarm would then require a manual activation of the switch or input of a code to reactivate to alarm status, without reactivation, alarm is off and provides no pool barrier protection. It is understood the alarm is installed 54� min. above the floor.

Commentary
The code does allow a deactivation switch. The code calls
for any deactivation switch to be located at least 54
inches above the threshold of the access, but does not
mention the functioning of the deactivation switch. The
code does not limit or address the length of time for
deactivation, or provide any criteria for reactivation.
Both F.S. 515 and the FBC allow installation of a
deactivation swith located 54" above the threshold.
