It is the Code intent to require 25,000 gallons of interceptor capacity. (1000 x 25 x 12/12 x 1 = 25,000 gallons). Multi chamber 3500 gallon interceptors are available as standard items, and larger ones are available on a custom-build basis. The code only limites each chamber to 1200 gal. maximum. If the facility is on septic tank then it is required that the designer use table 1003.5.1. If it is on a municipal sewer system the designer may use table 1003.5.1 However,If the facility is on public sewer the sizing is not required to be done using the referenced table, they may also use section 1003.3 and a PDI intercepter is allowed.
