Commentary
Section 912 addresses changes of occupancy classification
which is clearly the case at hand. Section 912.1.1 requires
compliance with Chapter 8 it is being presumed that this is
a change of occupancy classification without separation.
As a change of occupancy classification without separation,
the entire building is required to comply with the new
occupancy requirements unless modified by the FBCEB.
Chapter 8 states the provisions of Chapters 6 and
7 are applicable in addition to the provisions of Chapter 8.
(s.801.2). Section 701.3 requires all new construction
elements, components,systems and spaces to comply with the
FBCB. In addition, the occupancy classification change
constitutes a reconfiguration or conversion as addressed at
Section 709.1 FBCEB requiring the installation of
appropriate natural or mechanical ventilation and exhaust
system in accordance with FBCM.
