Yes, dangerous conditions discovered during work must be
corrected.

Commentary
If the room has existed for 20 years, proving a dangerous
condition exists could be problematic. The building
official should be notified and if the building official
believes there is a dangerous condition they should conduct
an evaluation in accordance with Section 506.2.2.1.
