Question

Is it the intent of R612.12 and R703.8 that
exterior window and door openings be sealed on
masonry walls with an approved sealant on the
return opening and 8 inches on the face of the
wall before the windows and doors are installed.

Commentary

Window & door installations in general, including sealants are to be installed in accordance with the manufacturers written directions and/or in accordance with one of the three options provided for in 703.8 (1) (1.1). The code also allows for other systems that are approved, meaning acceptable to the Building Official.
