Question
Is it the intent of FBC 2010-Section 403.4.7.1 to require a Level 1 emergency generator to be enclosed in a 2 hour fire rated room, even if the generator is installed on the last tier (open to the sky) of either an open or enclosed parking garage?

Yes, provided the standby system is powered by a generator
that is set INSIDE a building to be enclosed by 2-hour
vertical and horizontal fire barriers. If considered a roof
top mount, it would not be inside a building.However, the
enclosure required by NFPA 110 and the equipment installation
may trigger requirements from Section 1509.
