Question
Is it the intent of Exception 1 to Section 404.6 Enclosure of Atriums to require automatic sprinklers on both sides of individual windows in a smoke partition separating the atrium from individual spaces?

yes IF the design of the separation wall has glass that does
not comply with the fire rating requirement of 404.6 and if
there is a walkway on the atrium side and if the openings are
windows, the windows could be protected or designed with rated
glass.
