Question
"Is it the intent of Section 912.1, to consider a Group A-2 Occupancy changing from a Restaurant/Lounge to a Nightclub/Bar a �Change of Occupancy�. All are part of Group A-2.

Yes, this change qualifies as a change of use within the
occupancy class meeting the definition of Change of
Occupancy. If changing from a restaurant to a night
club,there is a definite change in the purpose or level of
activity within the building. In addition, the FFPC
requires existing occupancies of this sort with an occupant
load exceeding 100 to be protected by an automatic
sprinkler system. (FFPC s. 13.3.5)

Commentary
The 13.3.5 provision of NFPA 101 was modified by a Florida
specific amendment to change the existing occupant
threshold from 100 to 300 for the retrofit.
