Question

Is it the intent of the 2010 FBC to allow deck style pizza ovens to be placed under a type 2 hood. I have interpreted it as being a light duty appliance, and the code only calls out conveyor ovens for use under type 1. However I have heard that other municipalities have been requiring type 1 for this application.

Yes. According to 507.2.2 a Type II hood would suffice.

Commentary

Deck style pizza oven are by definition a "light duty cooking appliance" and the definition of Light-duty cooking appliances "...include gas and electric ovens (including standard, bake, roasting, revolving, retherm, convection..."
