Question
What is the definition of "Fire area located on a floor other than a level of exit discharge". Can there be any steps down to the discharge level or must the two be on the same plane.

There are two terms involved here. The first is "fire
area" the second is "level of exit discharge."
If the main assembly level is the "fire area," as defined
in 902.1, then the description of the exiting condition
from that fire area appears to meet the definition
of "level of exit discharge" in accordance with 1002.1.

Commentary
Based on the applicant's discription, it seems the upper
level is within the whole unit's "fire area".
