Question
Is it the intent of R313.2.1 to require smoke detectors to be added to a existing dwelling as required for a new dwelling when a permit is issued to open a bedroom wall add a game room and extend another bedroom.

The section cited is incorrect. However, Section R314.3.1
would require the smoke detectors to be provided in the
existing dwelling.
