Question
Is it the intent of the code to require engineering information on existing rooftop curbs which meet the existing code at the time of installation when applying for a permit to replace the HVAC unit. Not changes or alterations to existing curb.

Commentary
This issue will fall to the Existing Building Code and the
designer/contractor must select the code path within the
Existing Building Code. That will then determine the
amount of comliance with the FBC-M. If compliance through
the Existing Building Code is done in accordance with
Chapter 3, then all "new work, shall comply with the
current FBC-M. The code offical may require anchoring
information for the new unit to the existing curb (or
adapter curb if provided). If the existing curb meets
the height requiremetns of the code, is properly anchored
through a previously permitted installation, and is not
replaced, then it is allowed to remain in used without
modification. If a new curb is installed, then all
connections must be in compliance with the current codes.
