Question
Q-Does the general code govern or is there simply no height requirement for a private pool overhead obstruction? The residential code makes no mention of bridges over private swimming pool. The general code requires a minimum clearance of 48" above the water line and 96" above the bottom of the pool.

This code section is for public swimming pools and does not

Commentary
Although the residential code is silent on this issue,
section 101.2.2 of the Florida Building Code 2010 Model
Chapter One (BOAF) states "Florida Building Code standards
or practices which are not covered by Florida Building
Code, Residential volume shall be in accordance with the
provisions of Florida Building Code, Building." This
section may apply if your local jurisdiction has adopted
the referenced Model Chapter One. Check with the local
Building Official.
