Question
We are a low voltage company that installs computer network cables. On a recent inspection, we were told that in addition to supporting the cables from the deck above that we have to tie our supports to the ceiling grid. The ceiling tile guy does not like this and says that the ceiling was not engineered for this purpose. Is this a code requirement?

No. The code states "Cables and raceways shall not be
supported by ceiling grids." The cable must be fully
supported from the deck above, and may not be tied to the

Commentary
NEC 800.24 states, "The installation shall also conform to
300.4(D) and 300.11."
