Question
Is it the intent of 13-415AB CONTROLS OF LIGHTING FOR THE INTERIOR OF A BUILDING LARGER THAN 5,000 SF OR IS THE INTENT FOR A BUSINESS THAT IS 5,000 SF FOR EXAMPLE IF A STRIP CENTER HAS 10 BAYS AT 1,000 SF THEREFORE THE BUILDING IS 10,000 SF IS THE INTENT THAT EACH 1,000 SF BUSINESS HAS TO COMPLY OR IS THE INTEND FOR A SINGLE BUSINESS THAT IS 5,000 SF OR LARGER. IT SEEMS SOME CITIES ENFORCING THIS CODE WHILE OTHERS DO NOT.

The section addresses the building, not
the subdivided spaces. The next section
addresses spaces within the building and
it requires at least one control in any
space with ceiling-height partitions. In
the example, the building is 10,000 sq ft
so automatic lighting controls are
required unless the bays are separated by
fire barriers or fire walls creating
separate buildings. If required, then each
space would be required to comply with 13-
415.AB.1.2
