Question
Is it the intent of Table 101.4.1, Nonexempt Existing Buildings, that if a renovation is under 30 percent of the assessed value of the structure and there is also an addition, that only the addition shall be required to meet the energy code? Related to this, is it the intent of Section 501.2 that the addition can qualify under Section 506, Total Building Performance?

VOLUME OF THE FLORIDA BUILDING CODE.
Yes, only the addition is required to comply with current
energy code requirements. If building systems are installed
or replaced the energy code the energy code applies. For
additional information, see section 101.4.7 and table
101.4.1. Note A on table 101.4.1 and the existing building
code do not allow you to alter a building such that it
becomes less energy efficient than its existing condition.
Yes an addition can comply under the total building
performance method by itself.
