Question

Is it the intent of section 704.2.1 Existing Building Code to require a non sprinkled high rise condominium structure to become fully sprinkled because of a Level 2 alteration in one condo unit?

No. The scope of 704.1 indicates that it is limited to the
work area in which the level 2 alteration is being
performed.

Commentary

It should be noted that fire codes may require the building to be sprinklered throughout regardless of whether any work is done.
