Question
Is it the intent of section R806.2 to only count the actual ceiling area to be vented and not include the 8" block exterior wall?

The calculation is for the area of ROOF that needs to be
ventilated ("area of the space ventilated"), which in most
cases exceeds the area of the ceiling and includes the
block width.

Commentary
Based on design, the calculation could include the soffit
area. The area requiring ventilation is the truss layout
footprint or entire attic space.
