Question

Is it the intent of Florida Building Code - BUILDING 102.2 that it is applicable to non-residential buildings other than "floating residential structures?" Also does BUILDING apply to common areas associated with instances of multiple-unit dwellings.

Section 102.2 states "every public and private building,
structure or facility or floating residential structure, or
any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings,
structures or facilities." This encompasses ALL buildings
used for commercial purposes...To determine which volume of
the Florida Building Code is applicable to a specific
construction, one must refer to Section 101.2 (Scope). If
a construction does not meet one of the exceptions
contained in that section, then the construction must
comply with the Florida Building Code, Building volume. For
illustrative purposes, construction of a one family
dwelling of three stories or less must comply with the
Florida Building Code, Residential volume. Construction of
a one family dwelling of more than three stories must
comply with the Florida Building Code, Building volume.
