Question
Is it the intent of 608.16.2 that a back-flow preventer complying with ASSE 1012 or CSA B64.3 be installed on the potable water supply to the boilers heating domestic water that is used for showering, hand washing etc.?

YES, it is required that the water supply to the boiler
shall be protected by an ASSE 1012 device regardless of
what the boiler supplies water to. Unless chemicals are
introduced into the system, then an ASSE 1013 (RPZ) is
required.
